| The Hexham Races |
 |
| High above the historic market town, Hexham Racecourse has
been the home of National Hunt racing in Northumberland for well over a century.
It is now Northumberland's only racecourse. |
 |
| Hexham is a country course where a friendly welcome always
awaits. It has long been regarded as a true test of hardiness for racehorses
and spectators alike. Now, with recent improvements, they can enjoy the best
of both worlds; a brand new stand provides a safe haven from the fickleness of
the north of England weather for spectators; a new watering system fed by a
lake in the centre of the course ensures the best of going for the horses. |
 |
| Racing takes place in spring, early summer and in the autumn.
From March to June there are several weekend and bank holiday fixtures, as well
as popular evening meetings, which take advantage of the long evening twilight.
One of the highlights of the Spring is the Heart of All England Maiden Hunter
Chase which many consider a 'Cup Final' for rising chasing starts in the north
of England. |
 |
| The course offers a wide range of hospitality facilities
to enjoy a meal or a drink while watching the racing, from a light snack at the
bar to a full meal in a private box. There are also many opportunities for
companies and groups to sponsor races and to entertain their guests. The course
is also recognised as having some of the best viewing facilities for disabled
people in British racing, with access provided by a lift to all areas of the
stands as well as a special car park from which races can be viewed. |
